Heating & Cooling Equipment

For our business customers in Iowa

If it's time to install a new heating or cooling unit in your business, it makes sense to invest in an energy-efficient system. It also makes sense to ask your dealer about cash incentives from Alliant Energy-Interstate Power and Light.

Alliant Energy-IPL has great incentives on furnaces, boilers, air conditioners, water heaters, clock programmable thermostats and heat pumps that meet minimum energy-efficiency standards.

Eligible equipment and reward amounts:

Clock-programmable thermostats

When you install an ENERGY STAR qualified clock-programmable thermostat, you gain the flexibility of daily settings with weekday and weekend programs designed to increase your business' energy-saving potential. You can program the thermostat to adjust during different work hours, maintaining the comfort level of your employees and/or customers while lowering your energy bills by as much as 30 percent!

Equipment Reward

Clock programmable thermostat

$25 each

Water heaters

If your water heater is more than 10 years old, it probably is 50 percent less efficient than a newer model. An old, inefficient water heater can operate for years before it fails. One way to reduce your water heating costs is to replace your old water heater with a new, higher efficiency model.

Equipment Reward

Electric tank type, 40 gallon tank or greater, energy factor 0.93 or greater

$50 each

Natural gas tank type, 40 gallon tank or greater, energy factor 0.62 or greater

$75 each

Natural gas condensing, thermal efficiency 90% or greater $300 each

Natural gas tankless: EF 0.80 or greater

$300 each

Heating and Cooling Systems

If it's time to install a new heating and/or cooling system in your business, it makes sense to invest in energy-efficient equipment. With rewards from Alliant Energy-IPL, you can upgrade to high-efficiency models for less and save money in lower energy bills for years to come.

Light commercial, ENERGY STAR qualified HVAC units utilize an average of 10 percent less energy than other models. Our energy experts can explain the efficiency standards and help you determine your total reward.

Qualifying units must be shown in the current GAMA and ARI directories.

Special Alert:  AHRI Changes and Alliant Energy Cash Reward Claims

Recently the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) made a significant change to its equipment database in July 2009 – removing many coil-blower combinations from the equipment list. As you may know, Alliant Energy utilizes the AHRI database as a reference for processing cash reward claims.

For Alliant Energy customers or dealers that have installed new equipment with a mix-match coil-blower:  until further notice our claims processors are using the AHRI equipment list that existed prior to the update. If your equipment is on the old list and purchased by December 31, 2009, we will honor your reward claim. Throughout the remainder of 2009, IPL will add new equipment to the old list as needed.

If you have any questions, please call the Energy Efficiency Hotline at 1-866-ALLIANT (1-866-255-4268).

Insulation and Building Sealing

If you're looking to implement efficiency upgrades that have big potential for maximum impact on your bottom line, consider insulation and building sealing.

Insulation levels are specified by R-Value, which measures the insulation's ability to hold in or hold out heat. The higher the insulation's R-Value, the better its thermal performance.

Measure Reward

Ceiling and in-wall insulation

70 percent of total cost of contract labor, equipment and material up to a maximum of $10,000 for each type of insulation.

Building Sealing

70 percent of total cost of contract labor, equipment and material up to a maximum of $1,500

Multi-family insulation and building sealing

For multi-family dwellings the maximum reward is $750 per dwelling unit insulated and sealed.

Note:

  • Measures must be installed in a building in which Alliant Energy-IPL supplies the primary heating energy.
  • Professionally installed insulation: Have your dealer send a completed reward form and invoice to Alliant Energy-IPL within 30 days of installation.
  • Self-installed insulation: Call the Business resource center at 1-866-ALLIANT (1-866-255-4268) to obtain the appropriate reward form, attach the itemized, dated receipt and UPC code and send to Alliant Energy-IPL within 30 days of installation.
  • UPC code from product must accompany claim form.
  • New construction projects do not qualify.

Geothermal heating and cooling systems

A geothermal heating and cooling system, sometimes called a ground source heat pump, works on a simple premise: the earth below the “frost line” (usually about five feet down) is at a constant temperature of about 50 degrees year round. Heat can be taken from the ground and transferred through a heat pump to warm the air in your business during the winter. Heat can also be transferred back into the ground during summer to cool your business. Because the loop is self-contained and the heat pump is installed indoors, a geothermal system can have a life expectancy of up to 50 years. Learn more online at http://www.alliantenergygeothermal.com.

Ground source (geothermal) heat pumps (>180,000 Btu or 15 tons or less)

Closed loop: minimum EER = 14.1 and COP = 3.3
Reward = ($300 x tons) + [(EER - 14.1 x $50) x tons]
For desuperheater ...................................................................................

$100

Open loop: minimum EER = 16.2 and COP = 3.6
Reward = ($300 x tons) + [(EER - 16.2 x $50) x tons]
For desuperheater ...................................................................................

$100
