Alternative energy methods are not necessarily "new." Hydroelectric power has been in use since the early 1900s and was one of the first forms of energy offered by Alliant Energy's predecessor companies.
In fact, one of Alliant Energy's oldest assets, the Kilbourne Dam in Wisconsin Dells, has safely turned river current into a clean, steady source of power for 100 years.
Several other dams, including our 29-megawatt facility at Prairie du Sac, Wis., bring renewable electricity to Alliant Energy utility customers with consistency and reliability.
In 2004 and 2005 Alliant Energy sold all of its Wisconsin-based hydroelectric facilities, except Kilbourne and Prairie du Sac, to Midwest Hydro and signed purchase power agreements.
All seven of the company's hydroelectric facilities in Iowa were sold to North American Hydro Holdings, Inc. Alliant Energy continues to purchase the power generated at these facilities.
